Daisuke is one of the four alumni who were interviewed for the 2018 TOMODACHI Initiative Annual Report. Check out her interview below!
Despite his congenital physical disabilities, Daisuke played baseball as a child until he was barred from playing for his middle school baseball team. He was inspired to pursue track and field after reading about a Paralympian, and is currently ranked third in Japan in the 100 and 800 meter races. During his TOMODACHI program, he learned about entrepreneurship and visited Silicon Valley.
"It's my responsibility as a leader to embody all of my undertakings, including failures, and take initiative."
Q. What impact did your TOMODACHI program have on you?
Through my program, I learned a new method for business and had the opportunity to understand global business standards. I found new ways of building business totally different from the methods I had studied. I learned the importance of moving quickly without overthinking, in order to recognize and modify anything that is not working. I realized that these approaches are similar to the daily training routine I do as I aim for the 2020 Paralympics.
Q. What does leadership mean to you?
Sharing my endeavors with my team members. I think that it is important as a leader to show failures to allow others to make mistakes.
