Kirari is one of the four alumni who were interviewed for the 2018 TOMODACHI Initiative Annual Report. Check out her interview below!
Kirari was in sixth grade when the Great East Japan Earthquake devastated her hometown. She joined her TOMODACHI program as a junior in high school and traveled to the United States to learn about leadership and community service. Thanks to her TOMODACHI experience, Hirari has chosen to study abroad in Seattle for a year after high school.
"I am so grateful to be a part of such a community, where I can be honest about my passions and be accepted for who I am..."
Q. What impact did your TOMODACHI program have on you?
Before, I did not have a strong desire to be the center of attention and take on leadership roles, but by participating in my TOMODACHI program, I saw the importance of realizing my passions through my actions. This realization led me to serve as a Regional Leader for the TOMODACHI Alumni Leadership program.
Q. Please tell us about the TOMODACHI community.
TOMODACHI offers many opportunities for team activities, and draws like-minded passionate people together. It's such a powerful community and almost like a close-knit family. We are able to connect with one another even though we don't meet often.
